CBS says it has sold out of ads for the Super Bowl Betting at average prices that are better than last year, with some 30-second spots topping $3 million apiece.

The Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints play in the Super Bowl in Miami this Sunday.

CBS Corp. says the final spot sold Monday morning, six days before super bowl betting kickoff. That's a few days ahead of schedule. Last year, NBC still had two 30-second spots remaining two days before the game.

NCAA Basketball Betting ACC Basketball Rankings - Duke leads the way, but they are hardly without flaws.

This week Georgia Tech showed their potential in NCAA Basketball Tournament. North Carolina couldn't build on the momentum of the NC State, and lost at home to Virginia.

1. Duke Blue Devils (17-4, 5-2) Last week - 1

The good news this week was that Duke beat one the ACC's better teams Florida State 70-56 Durham on Wednesday. The bad news is that they got hammered by Georgetown Saturday 89-77.

2. Florida State Seminoles (16-5, 4-3) Last week - 2

The Seminoles had 2 road games this past week in the ACC, and went 1-1, a loss at Duke and a win at Boston College.

3. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (16-5, 4-3) Last week - 7

The Yellow Jackets had a strong week. They won their two games by a combined 69 points. The 48 point win over Division II Kentucky St. wasn't a surprise, but the 21 point win over Wake Forest was.

4. Virginia Cavaliers (13-6, 4-2) Last week 5

The Cavs went 1-1 this week, and they don't look like they are going away anytime soon. A tough home OT loss to Virginia Tech was followed by an inspired 75-60 beatdown of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.

5. Clemson Tigers (16-6, 4-4) Last week - 4

The Tigers struggled in the 75-69 loss to Boston College without PG Demontez Stitt. I went down to Clemson to watch the Tigers and see how they would respond in a game against ACC leader Maryland.

6. Wake Forest Demon Deacons (14-5, 4-3) Last week - 3

Losing on the road at ranked Georgia Tech 79-58 isn't a big cause for concern for the Deacs. I don't think it will be trend.

7. Maryland Terrapins (14-6, 4-2) Last week 8

The Terps had the normal ACC week; they won at home and lost on the road. The home win was an 81-59 victory over Miami, and road loss was a 62-53 defeat at the hands of Clemson.

8. Virgina Tech Hokies(16-4, 3-3) Last week - 6

Probably asking Virginia Tech to 2-0 on the road this week in the ACC was a bit much to ask. They did get a win at Virginia, which is looking better and better, but lost Sunday to Miami 82-75.

9. Boston College Eagles (12-10, 3-5) Last week 11

BC had a good solid win over Clemson 75-69 Tuesday, but couldn't come up with a home win over Florida State. They lost that one 61-57. The Eagles play hard, but they have trouble scoring consistently. They don't shoot the 3 well either. They get Duke at home on Saturday.

10. Miami Hurricanes (16-5, 2-5) Last week - 12

Good for the Hurricanes showing some heart in beating Virginia Tech 82-75 down in Miami. They shot a splendid 63% from the field. Earlier in the week they got roughed up by Maryland 81-59. I think the Canes are back to reality this week when they go on the road to face Wake Forest Tuesday, then Saturday at Florida St.

11. North Carolina Tar Heels (13-8, 2-4) Last week - 9

I think most everyone thought after the Tar Heels beat NC State in Raleigh they were about to go on a run. Roy Williams had righted the ship.

12. North Carolina State Wolfpack(14-8, 2-5) Last week 10

if NC State lost to UNC at home that their NCAA chances were just about gone. That was a game the Wolfpack couldn't afford to lose and it dropped them to 2-5 in the ACC.

Lingerie Football League (LFL) 2010 New Years Day Preview

As we bring 2009 to a close, 2010 opens with a Lingerie Football League (LFL) Western Conference showdown in Seattle Washington. The league took a bye week for the Christmas last Friday.

The last LFL game was #14 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois at the Sears Centre Arena. The Chicago Bliss at 2-0 hosted the 2-1 Philadelphia Passion before a nearly sold out crowd. Around 10,000 Chicago area fans came out to see the LFL as a blizzard was beginning to hit the area.

The Bliss with a win clinch the Eastern Conference playoff spot, while a Passion win would keep Philly in the hunt for a playoff spot. The contest was highly anticipated, and on paper should have been a close match.

The final game stats look like a close match, but the most important stat says otherwise. Points scored.

Chicago’s offense pounded the Passion’s end--zone. While they held the ball half the amount of time Philadelphia did, they were able to outscore the Passion by 33 points!

On the Bliss opening drive QB Elle Cartabiano (a drop dead gorgeous 20 year old Brunette, who looks more like a Victoria Secret’s model. Let’s us hope Tom Brady stays away from her!) kept the ball to run nine yards in, placing the first 6 points on the board.

The Bliss would never give up the lead. With just :07 seconds left in the first half, Passion QB Jackie Danico would cough up an interception to Bliss Safety Kat Johns. (A Chicago Native.)

Johns would have a LFL highlight reel return, 46 yards to score another Bliss TD to end the half. The nearly “coast to coast” TD run had the look of an Eddie Moten Interception performance in the now defunct AFL.

That play may have been the nail in the Passion’s coffin, making the score 28-13 at half-time. The second half would see Chicago Bliss RB Saran Dunmore score three rushing touchdowns.

The Bliss would cruise to a 46-19 final score after only holding the ball for 11:33 minutes. The Passion couldn’t make it past 20 points with over 22:27 time of possestion. And the end of the first half interception was the games lone turn over!

Chicago had only five more yards total offense than Philadelphia, two less 1^st downs, and 12 less rushing yards. Yet the Bliss put up a score almost as hot as the women playing the game.

Chicago clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference Championship game Thursday February 4, 2010 at the Seminole Hard Rock Live Arena, in Hollywood, Florida. (Who the hell named that place, Dave Barry? I mean could you have a more run-on name for the place?)

The Bliss still doesn’t know who they will yet play, with the Tampa Breeze, or most likely opponent Miami Caliente (Which is Cuban for beautiful women who play badass football, I think.)

The Breeze have two games left on their schedule with a January 15^th home game, hosting arguably the WORST LFL team in the New York Majesty. The following week they have a January 22^nd road trip south to Sunrise Florida to play the Caliente.

Tampa MUST beat NY & Miami to make the postseason. Miami a hard hitting team, who puts points up with ease, just needs to beat Tampa. The pressure is on the Breeze.

As for the Western Conference, something changes, on New Years Day. The 2-1 Seattle Mist host the LFL top ranked team, Dallas Desire at 3-0.

Dallas who has not played a game since their October 23^rd win over the Los Angeles Temptation.

This game is a MUST win for the Mist to make post season. This is the Final regular season game for Dallas, having already clinched a post season spot. A win the Desire are the Western Champions. A loss would put them in a three way...tie in standings of course. Dallas would be 3-1 with Los Angeles, and Seattle.

I did enjoy the fact the LFL’s own Press Release noted, the Seattle Mist as the only area Pro-Football team with a chance for making the playoffs. I wonder how the front office of the Seahawks feels being mocked in an inverted pyramid, NEAR THE TOP!

But considering the best thing the Seahawks have produced in twenty years, is Price is Right model Amber Lancaster. Well, they deserve to be zinged. I don’t think the LFL did that intentionally as much as to motivate depressed Seahawks fans to fill the place up.

The Mist does draw very well, (REAL SHOCKER) so the fans making a decent amount of noise in the Arena could be a problem for the Desire. But don’t hold your breath.

Seattle’s 1^st string QB Lindsey Blaine is questionable. (As of Dec. 28^th at www.LFLUS.com) She has not played since getting knocked out of the 1^st half vs. L.A. She suffered a split chin and concussion.

Dallas is coached by 33 year old retired NFL Safety Antuan Edwards. He was the 1999 1^st round pick of the Green Bay Packers. I vaguely remember him in 2004 on my Miami Dolphins.

Clearly many coaches in the NFL often are only average players. Edwards has the best LFL Roster from top to bottom. They boast the best offense and defense.

Dallas has Gabriele Marie, a sexy brunette from Waterloo Iowa. (Is this heaven?) Marie a soon to be 26 year old plays true Arena Football “Ironman football” as a RB & LB. I guess “Ironbabe Football” would be more appropriate.

On offense; Rushing Marie has 8 carries for 61 yards. She averages 7.6 yards a carry and has rushed in for 1 TD. Receiving she has 2 receptions for 33 yards and 2 TD. 0 Turnovers.

On Defense; she has 20 tackles, 11 solo, 9 assisted, 1 sack (two away from Coach Edwards NFL Career total sacks!)

Also look out for Dallas players, WR Candice Mosely who has 5 receptions for 78 yards and 4 TD. Along with on D; 10 tackles, 5 solo, and 1 interception. 0 Turnovers.

QB Linda Brenner, who has 10 completions in 29 attempts. With a 34.5 PCT with 170 passing yards and 7 passing TD. She also has 2 rushes for 9 yards. And, yes you guessed the theme, 0 turnovers!

Dallas knows how to hold on to that ball, which means the Mist has to make the most out of their possessions to win.

I will be bummed I can’t see Game 15 live here in Pennsylvania. I will have to enjoy Chivas on the rocks, with a can of Yuengling Premium Beer, and occasional shots of Wild Turkey in absence of a live feed here.

Maybe Jay Cutler will be here, we can watch ‘Fear & Loathing; In Las Vegas’.

I do think Dallas will win going to 4-0 for their inaugural regular season. The game is at the Showare Center in Kent, Washington. Kick-off is 9 PM PST. Tickets are said to be limited.

Monday Night Football Live: Lately, the Minnesota Vikings lost two of three including an embarrassing loss in Carolina to the panthers. I think they have not been playing best football. Let’s see who gets through in this Monday Night Football match up between the Minnesota Vikings and the Chicago Bears.

There has been some problems reported with Brett Favre and head coach Brad Childress, with questions as to who is in charge. Now, every thing is cleared up and everyone knows that Brett’s in charge. I think the Minnesota Vikings will turn it around in NFL Week 16.

Monday Night Football Live

The point to be noticed is about playing of the Minnesota Vikings. Of course, I agree that it has been a disappointing year for Carolina and the Panthers have not played well, but it is tough to match up with how poorly the Bears have fared after all the pre-season hype.

Do you like the dummy now folks? All the talk is about how stupid Josh McDaniels was for trading away Jay Cutler for a bunch of NFL picks and Kyle Orton seems like rubbish now, doesn’t it?

Kyle and the Broncos are on the verge of a playoff birth while Jay and the Bears are a couple wins away from, just 7 freaking wins. That’s right, Chicago is guaranteed a losing season, and lately, they have been playing like the bottom tier in the entire NFL season.

Last week, the Chicago Bears made the Ravens offense look like the greatest show on turf, and they have lost 6 of 7 to boot. According to me, the Chicago Bears is just a bad football team and not much more to say. Minnesota Vikings better get it right here, if not now than never.

NFL Power Rankings Week 16: After the exciting week 15 of NFL, here I’m ready with NFL Power Rankings Week 16.

We have been digesting the well known fact about Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, which still remains on top in NFL power rankings since long time. Enjoy the last two weeks of the NFL regular season along with football betting and happy holidays.

This time, Vikings did good job on comparison with previous rankings. Expectations were really high on Green Bay Packers to be in top 5, but they could not stand upon. The unfortunate news about Dallas cowboys is about their shut down step towards NFL Playoff. I feel, it is tough for them to give important mark for this NFL regular season.

Jacksonville Jaguars are in 15 as of now which may fluctuate soon. How ever, they are not going to be competitors to Titans. Finally, the worst team in the NFL is St. Louis Rams.

(5) Arizona Cardinals
Arizona is hot more than they are cold, are in control of that division, and headed for the playoffs. Many teams can’t say that, in Week 16. 11-5 or 10-6 will be the final record and the NFC West title will be theirs again.

(6) Green Bay Packers
The Green Bay Packers have come charging out of the woods, surprising teams, and slaughtering them, storing their seasons in a deep freeze until next year. The Packers could be at a wild card pace of 10-5 when this Week 16 ends.

At 8:20 PM ET, when the Jacksonville Jaguars host the perfect Indianapolis Colts at 8:20 PM ET, NFL Thursday night football will feature one of the NFL’s two undefeated teams trying to keep their perfect ledger intact.

Indianapolis Colts beat Jacksonville Jaguars 14-12 in the teams' Sept. 13 opener, and the Colts are 12-4 against the Jaguars with Manning at quarterback.

A few weeks ago this wouldn't be a hard prediction to make. But here in Week 15 it's hard to say who has the better team. But if Young is still nursing the strained hamstring then the Dolphins have the edge.

The Falcons rise and fall with the health of Matt Ryan. If they had been full strength against the Saints who knows what the outcome would have been. Atlanta's physical condition is too much of an unknown to predict their success. Meanwhile the Jets have been respectable, not outstanding, but respectable. This should be a tough contest with defense winning out.

San Francisco vs Philadelphia, 1:00PM ET

The 49ers show drops of skill but buckets of incompetence. The Eagles are starting to roll and have a division hanging on every victory. While San Francisco has a stellar defense, Philadelphia's offensive schemes will confuse them and dash their playoff hopes.

The Raiders can't catch a break. Just when they think things are starting to click Gradkowski goes down and Russell comes in to ruin the day. Their offense will again be anemic. The Broncos were bullied by a better team but still have some potential. They'll need to play with heart to keep their playoff hopes intact.

Green Bay vs Pittsburgh, 4:15PM ET

The Packers seem to be gelling at just the right time. They are in a good position in the wildcard race but need to keep their focus. The Steelers are reeling. They really don't seem to know what is wrong and therefore there is no reason to think this week will be any different than the last five.

NFL Power Rankings Week 15 – After a challenging Week 14 of the NFL season and the 49ers vs Cardinals’ Monday night football game has just wrapped up, it’s time and let’s get going with theNFL Power Rankings for Week 15.

In the Monday night game, San Francisco defeated Arizona and I’m ready to put out my week 15 NFL power rankings.

Here are some NFL Power Rankings for Week 15 (NFL Week 14 Rankings are in brackets):

1 (1) New Orleans Saints (13-0): Another week, another close win and struggling against bad teams but still undefeated.

2 (2) Indianapolis Colts (13-0): The Colts just won their 22nd regular season game.

3 (3) Minnesota Vikings (11-2): Dominant victory against the Bengals last time out and nice to see Adrian Peterson return to form.

4 (4) San Diego Chargers (10-3): The Chargers continue to roll in December and Heading into week 15 with 8 straight wins.

5 (7) Philadelphia Eagles (9-4): 4 straights wins is good for a top spot in the power rankings and a messy win, but still a win. Are the Eagles starting to utilize Michael Vick?

6 (9) Green Bay Packers (9-4): Green Bay might actually have a defense and with cold winter weather in full effect on the Frozen Tundra of Lambeau Field, Aaron Rodgers may start passing less, leaving Ryan Grant to pick up the slack.

7 (5) Cincinnati Bengals (9-4): The Bengals passing game needs to improve if they want to be an elite team and will the real Cincinnati please stand up?

8 (6) Dallas Cowboys (8-5): Another week of the “Tony Romo doesn’t produce in December” conversation and home loss to the Chargers sends Dallas down to #8.

9 (8) Arizona Cardinals (8-5): Nothing went right on Monday night football and still maddeningly inconsistent. With a division title in their grasp, they give up seven turnovers.

10 (12) New England Patriots (8-5): Brady’s injury is affecting that offense and the rankings and at least took a couple of seasons for Randy Moss to implode?

11 (15) Baltimore Ravens (7-6): Nothing went wrong against the Lions and the Ravens are hurting at the tight end position.

12 (10) Denver Broncos (8-5): Brandon Marshall had a great day.

13 (11) New York Giants (7-6): So talented yet so inconsistent this NFL season and the Giants defense can’t seem to stop anybody.

14 (13) Jacksonville Jaguars (7-6): Maurice Jones Drew has been solid in fantasy and how are the Jaguars still in the playoff race? They might not be for much longer when the face the Colts on Thursday.

15 (16) Miami Dolphins (7-6): Putting themselves back in the NFL playoff picture and with the Pats floundering, could the Dolphins win the division?

16 (17) New York Jets (7-6): 3 straight victories have the Jets thinking playoffs again and don’t look now but the Jets have won three in a row.

17 (18) Tennessee Titans (6-7): Could move up in our power rankings with a week 15 victory and Chris Johnson continue to dominate.

18 (20) Houston Texans (6-7): Offense is so good but the defense and Matt Schaub had 300 yards in passing by halftime.

19 (21) San Francisco 49ers (6-7): 49ers showing life after a rough stretch and after going to the spread offense, it’s nice to see the Niners go back to Frank Gore and the ground game.

20 (14) Pittsburgh Steelers (6-7): 5 straight losses heading into week 15 and who would have thought the Cleveland Browns would hand the Steelers a death blow?

21 (19) Atlanta Falcons (6-7): Missing Matt Ryan and Michael Turner badly and as if the team doesn’t enough problems with its injuries, Jonathan Babineaux goes and gets himself arrested.

22 (22) Carolina Panthers (5-8): Are you allowed to call out an opponent for “quitting” after they just beat you? Injuries are killing these guys this year.

23 (26) Buffalo Bills (5-8): Another NFL team that could use some consistency and their defense came up big against the struggling Chiefs.

24 (23) Chicago Bears (5-8): Such a good arm and such poor decisions and just playing out the string.

25 (24) Seattle Seahawks (5-8): Not much love for Seattle in the week 15 power rankings and ditto for the Seahawks.

26 (25) Washington Redskins (4-9): Playing much better football lately and Quinton Ganther looked promising.

27 (27) Oakland Raiders (4-9): Is Justin Fargas really the son of Antonio “Huggy Bear” Fargas? Looking good until JaMarcus Russell came back.

28 (28) Kansas City Chiefs (3-10): Offense is struggling heading into week 15 and the Chiefs offense is a mess.

29 (30) Cleveland Browns (2-11): Doing their best to avoid the top draft pick and I’m sure the Browns stink, but they stink less than they used to.

30 (29) Detroit Lions (2-11): Played about as bad as possible last week. Running back Kevin Smith, one of the team’s few bright spots this season, is done for the year.

31 (32) Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1-12): Not getting blown out has them here in our rankings. Stretching back to last season, the Bucs have lost 16 of their last 17.

32 (31) St. Louis Rams (1-12): Last in power rankings but let’s expect some thing about Keith Null.

It’s now the NFL Week 11 Picks, which means that all teams have had adios weeks and now we are prepared to put an eye on the standing from here on out.

Last night, the game Patriots v Colts ( WATCH HIGHLIGHTS) was really incredible. Whenever those teams meet it’s like watching a great movie. It just seems to always live up to all the hype.

In NFC, (6-3) Dallas remains atop the NFC East despite a disappointing loss, (8-1) Minnesota continues to rule the NFC North, the Saints are of course unbeaten in the NFC South, and (6-3) Arizona remain in first place in the NFC West.

Peyton Manning’s fourth quarter comeback Sunday night was impressive, but not completely unexpected. Green Bay’s domination over the Cowboys likely cost a few bettors some money, but that is the same Packers team that was favored two weeks ago to beat the Minnesota Vikings.

A Cleveland win tonight over a Baltimore Ravens (-11) team desperate to get back above .500? Now this would be the kind of thing that turns the football betting industry on its ear. Odds makers opened the line for the Ravens-Browns game just a shade higher than 10 and the contest attracted very little attention through the past week. Cleveland is rested off a bye week but divisional home teams off a bye are just 2-12 ATS when playing under the Monday night lights. It has added up to an increase of betting on the road favorite that began late Sunday and will likely continue up until kickoff.

Baltimore’s stout run defense has taken of criticism this year and attracted a lot of bad press when Bengals RB Benson recorded back-to-back 100-plus rushing days against them. Turn to Cleveland’s run game, which averages less than 100 yards per game on a whole, never mind one back, and stopping the Browns shouldn’t be too difficult.

Cleveland’ leading rusher, Jamal Lewis, has rushed for 100-plus yards just once this year in six starts and of the other five his best day was 69 yards. Three of Lewis’ six starts ended with less than 50 total rushing yards.

Ravens running back Ray Rice has been a big part of any success on offense this season and will be featured as a major part of the attack Monday. Leading all backs in receptions this year; Rice is second in net yards from scrimmage with 126.1 per game. He has also scored four rushing TDs in the past three games so against Cleveland’s 31st ranked run defense, Rice should flourish.

In the first meeting this season the Ravens throttled the Browns 34-3 and in eight games this year Baltimore has broken the 30-point barrier five times. It has been 15 games since Cleveland achieved such a lofty point total.

Handicappers speak of look-ahead spots when two mismatched teams hook-up but looking past the Browns is not something the ex-Browns do very often, especially with so much on the line. Baltimore plays Indianapolis next week but the surging Cincinnati Bengals have placed an added importance on every game for both Pittsburgh and Baltimore if they hope to contend for a playoff spot in the ultra-competitive AFC North.

The person who should perhaps be most nervous tonight is Browns quarterback Brady Quinn. Benched during his awful Week 3 performance against this Baltimore team, Quinn is back under center Monday for his second round of the season as starter. Unfortunately the offense has thinned at talent, the defense is losing hope and until someone can make sense of the coaching and management fiasco at Brownsville, it looks like another limp to the finish is in store.

This is the fourth double-digit point spread of the 2009 season on Monday night and all three double-digit favorites have won straight-up but missed covering the spread. All three games went “Over” the posted total, too, pushing the Over/Under mark in the past three years to 8-3 O/U in games with this high of a line.

Monday Night Football has produced a few doozies this year, but the odds are stacked against this one competing. Unless, that is, HC Mangini has some tricks up his sleeve he’s been saving. On that note we should probably mention that the money line on the Browns winning straight-up is paying +450.

NFL Week 10 Picks: For just a few moments on Sunday, they took the air out of our lungs. That dreadful thought creeped back into our collective consciousness. You know the one, that i know....

The Carolina Panthers scored 14 unanswered points right off the bat and hands were thrown in the air across the Gulf Coast region.

Would there be a brushing off of the old paper bags?

As if to scorn us for thinking such a thing, the boys in black came back and showed the Panthers just why they are one of only two unbeaten teams in the NFL at the season’s midway mark.

They also showed us fans that this is, indeed, a new day in Saints football history. “There hasn’t been a real great history here in regards to successful football,” coach Sean Payton said, in an understatement that rivals any other of the year. “It’s good to get to 8-0. I’m excited for our players. I’m proud of how hard they played.”

After missing the NBA betting playoffs for the first time in five seasons, the Phoenix Suns are prepared to run their way back to the postseason in 2009-10.

The determined Suns look to open the season Wednesday night with a fifth straight victory over the visiting Los Angeles Clippers, who are trying to get by without injured No. 1 overall draft pick Blake Griffin.

Poised to bounce back after a first-round playoff exit the previous NBA season, Phoenix took a step back in 2008-09.

New coach Terry Porter, who tried to transform the fast-paced Suns into more of a halfcourt, defensive-minded team, was fired with the Suns 28-23 and averaging 104.4 points per game at the All-Star break.

Assistant coach Alvin Gentry took over and sped up the tempo as Phoenix went 18-13 while averaging 117.4 down the stretch.

The Suns, though, were already in a hole and then hit hard by a season-ending eye injury to star forward Amare Stoudemire (21.4 ppg, 8.1 rpg) in February. Despite finishing 46-36, they missed the playoffs for the first time since 2004.

Sports Betting Community: NFL offers free medical followup

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell plans to tell Congress that the NFL League will offer free follow-up medical work to 56 players who reported dementia, Alzheimer’s disease or other memory-related problems in a recent survey that helped spark a hearing Wednesday on head injuries.

In written testimony to the House Judiciary Committee Roger Goodell said that, the NFL League also will reach out to the players to see whether they are receiving money from the 88 Plan, which provides up to $88,000 a year to former players suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s, regardless of the cause.

"The recent study, conducted for the NFL by researchers at the University of Michigan, suggested that retired pro football players may have a higher rate than normal of Alzheimer’s disease or other memory afflictions".

"We have directed Dr. Weir to contact in a confidential manner those 56 former players and their families who reported memory problems to see if they are receiving 88 Plan funding and offer them the opportunity to have follow up medical work done at our expense,” Goodell said. “That process has already begun.”

Goodell said the health and welfare of all members of the “NFL family, particularly our retired players,” is personally important to him. “Since becoming commissioner, I can think of no single issue to which I have devoted as much time and attention.”

Goodell said that while this was a “a telephone survey and not a true medical diagnosis, we share the views of the Michigan researchers that the number of retired players reporting memory-related problems is a concern that needed further research.”

Regarding head injuries specifically, he said medical considerations must always trump competitive ones, and that the league has established a toll-free hot line for players if they believe they’re being pressured to return to the field before fully recovering from a concussion or other head injury.

“All return-to-play decisions are made by doctors and doctors only,” the commissioner said. “The decision to return to the game is not made by coaches. Not by players. Not by teammates.”

Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson was told to stay away from the team yesterday while the NFL Season and the Chiefs complete their investigation into his use of a "homosexual slur" twice this week.

The Chiefs said they have told Larry Johnson he would not be allowed to practice with the NFL team or participate in team activities until the matter was resolved.

Larry Johnson issued an apology, and a national gay rights advocacy organization called on the league and the team to take action against the two-time Pro Bowl back.

The latest chapter in Johnson's stormy career began Sunday night when he questioned coach Todd Haley's football credentials on his Twitter account.

"He used the slur during an exchange with one of his Twitter followers".

On Monday, Johnson used the slur again as he brushed off reporters and told them he would not comment, according to the Kansas City Star, which recorded the comment.

Johnson, who needs only 75 yards rushing to become the Chiefs' all-time leader, apologized to Haley, the team, fans and the league "for the words I used."

"I regret my actions. The words were used by me in frustration, and they were not appropriate," he said through a spokesman. "I did not intend to offend anyone, but that is no excuse for what I said."

Jarrett Barrios, president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, called on the NFL and the Chiefs to take disciplinary action against Johnson and seize a chance to educate "on the dangers of homophobia in sports."

Week 8 NFL Power Rating Picks

The further into the NFL season we go, the more line movement we are seeing in the first few days of betting the new NFL card.

Early numbers have pointed to two side plays in the NFL Power Rating Picks for Week 8, one favorite and one underdog.

These picks are 12-6 ATS (67-percent) through Week 7 and looking to hit ‘70’ this Sunday.

Early NFL power rating picks for the Week started out on the right foot Sunday when the Pittsburgh Steelers pulled the cover out of their sleeves in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. The New York Jets did their part against the Raiders, too, but Atlanta was unable to hang with the Cowboys.

Dallas is now 5-0 ATS off their bye and money moved that line heavily but covering was never a question as the Boys registered their highest offensive output since Week 2, 2008!

Power rating picks needed the Sunday nighter and betting on the Giants off that loss in New Orleans seemed like it had a good shot of hitting. Unfortunately Arizona didn’t see things that way and the early picks ended up 2-2 ATS for the week.

1. Chicago -13.5: This is a big number but Cleveland has shown great difficulty scoring this year, especially away from home.

2. Jacksonville +3: Rare power rating spot that came up only three times in 2008 (3-0 ATS) and was "live" once this year with Washington in Week 5 in Carolina, also a winner. It seems the oddsmakers had to make Tennessee a favorite here, coming off a bye, playing at home and needing a win in the worst way. But the Jags are also rested and are 3-1 SU in their past four outings, the one goose egg in Seattle standing out as a black eye.

These plays are generated from a system that matches up ratings from each team in the league, based on statistics and adjusted for injuries, factors in the pointspread and then accounts for home field advantage. Results are graded based on the team’s situation that week (i.e. home favorite, road dog).

It’s not suggested to use the BRPR plays as the sole foundation of a bet but over the years the system has had a proven track record and can be a great tool for supporting other handicapping, systems or trends on a game.

Two things happen when such a high percentage of heavy favorites win straight-up and cover the spread, as was the case in NFL betting for Week 7.

First, bookies and online sportsbooks take a big hit. Dog money exists but it is usually not going to be enough to counter all of the late public money that pours in on Peyton, Brady and Drew Brees.

Secondly, the BetRepublic Power Ranking charts get a bit dusty. The good teams that were supposed to win did their part this week while the bad teams, well; they just kept on being Oakland.

NFL Power Rankings for Week 8

No change this week at the top of our power rankings as the New Orleans Saints illustrate yet another talent in a comeback win over Miami. Back-to-back divisional home games, starting with Atlanta in this week’s Monday Nighter will give anyone who hasn’t seen much of the Saints this year a chance to witness the improved defense and potent offense. New Orleans (-10) was quickly bought up to double-digit favorites in early betting.

New England has made back-to-back attempts at taking over the No. 2 spot from Indianapolis but the Colts’ dominance over St. Louis is on par with the Patriots win vs. Tampa Bay in London so rankings stay inline.

The Pats are off this week and Indy (-12) hosts San Francisco so we are unlikely to see any change in the Top 3 for Week 9 either, unless…

Upticks
Pittsburgh pulled out all the stops in its 27-17 win against Minnesota, covering the spread (and then not covering), and then covering it again when Steelers LB Keyaron Fox returned an interception 82 yards for a TD with a minute to play. Pittsburgh has now won four-straight and will follow a Week 8 bye with a Monday Night clash against the Denver Broncos.

NFL Week 7 Wagering Opportunities

In this nfl week, there might only be 13 games on the schedule, however 5 exceptional matchups are really standout on Sunday afternoon.

This week AFC-NFC conflicts dominate the NFL schedule and four in particular are worth noting. The NFC leads 13-10 SU and Minnesota will put unbeaten record on the line at Pittsburgh.

Two upstarts, San Francisco and Houston will try to keep pushing playoff aspirations. Chicago and Cincinnati meet in the Queen City and one team will have consecutive losses at the end of the day. New Orleans is in potential flat spot on the road against rested home underdog Miami and Dallas also returns from a bye week and to face a dangerous Atlanta squad.

Minnesota at Pittsburgh 1:00E FOX

Minnesota (6-0, 4-2 ATS) continues its most difficult stretch of the 2009 season with a trip to what could be the NFL’s toughest environment, Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

The defending champion Steelers (1-5 ATS) are starting to find their groove, having won three straight games to move to 4-2, with 27-14 win over Cleveland.

They’ll head into their bye week next, important since underdogs and road teams are 6-1 ATS in the last seven Pittsburgh pre-bye week games. Head coach Mike Tomlin’s team is also just 2-5 ATS in its last seven tries vs.

NFC foes and just 1-2 SU & 0-3 ATS hosting the Vikings. Still, with a 28-11 ATS record vs. teams with winning percentage of 75 or higher, Pittsburgh has to like its chances. Minnesota will be out for more late game magic vs. the Steelers and is 3-0 SU and ATS on the road.

Keys to the Game-

At 40-years old, Brett Favre has the third highest quarterback rating at this juncture of the season, as the offensive line has done superior work in keeping his jersey clean.

This allows Favre to step into his throws and getting attacking defenses. Last week was perfect example as they built 14-0 lead on Baltimore before they knew what hit them.

Minnesota has performed poorly in two of last three games in the fourth quarter, being torched on the ground and thru the air. That won’t work against Ben Roethlisberger and the Vikes are 1-10 ATS in road games after allowing seven or more yards a play in their previous game.

The Steelers haven't allowed a 100-yard rusher in 24 consecutive regular season games and keeping Adrian Peterson in tow is tantamount. Favre has hit a number of plays to WR Sidney Rice the last few weeks, those have to be contained.

Pittsburgh is 11-2 ATS in home games after gaining 300 or more passing yards and must keep Jered Allen away from Big Ben and keep the pressure on 24th ranked pass defense.

After being off last week, San Francisco coach Mike Singletary faces a challenge of getting his 49ers (3-2, 4-1 ATS) teams to play well, as they were 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS in post-bye week games prior to his arrival.

Another obstacle figures to be the fact that this will be the 49ers first ever trip to Reliant Stadium. They are still stinging from the 45-10 loss to Atlanta, their first ATS setback of 2009.
